Where No Man Has Gone Before

Frontier markets may not be quite as frontier as those visited by Captain Kirk and the Enterprise but for many they are still pretty “foreign.” If you’re thinking about this universe (and you probably should at least be aware of the concept), you might want to take a look at the new Russell indexes. The Journal of Indexes reports that the new broad Russell Frontier Index is a float-adjusted market-capitalization-weighted benchmark that limits any one country to 15%. It includes 683 securities; top countries include Argentina, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait and Qatar. There are a number of specialized versions including Frontier Small Cap. Must be some pretty interesting firms.
